Nightside with Dan Rea - Rundown for January 28, 2021

Commissioner Gross Retires. Boston Police Commissioner William Gross is retiring after two and a half years heading the force. There had been speculation that Gross would jump in the Boston mayoral race but as Dan Rea reported early today, Commissioner Gross will not run for mayor. The Commissioner joins Dan to discuss his decision.

A reform movement backed by billionaire George Soros is emphasizing the rights of defendants over the rights of victims and spending millions to help elect like-minded district attorney candidates across the country. Essex County D.A. Jonathan Blodgett and Rafael Mangual of the Manhattan Institute join Dan to discuss the effect of these efforts on citizens, jails, and crime rates.

Vaccination Rough Seas. As Massachusetts prepares for Phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, seniors and local lawmakers are venting frustrations about the inaccessibility of vaccination appointments. Problems include not enough time slots, incomplete information, and temperamental websites. Add these issues to the fact that the Bay State is only a third of the way toward completing its Phase 1 vaccination goal. Has the Baker Administration botched the administration of the vaccine?
