No Eviction For You! The CDC has issued a new order extending their federal eviction moratorium until Oct. 3rd. In a statement from the CDC, Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky determined that any evictions “could be detrimental to public health control measures to slow the spread of COVID”. In addition, the federal government allocated $46 billion in rental relief yet only $3 billion has been disbursed. Due to the fact that many landlords are left struggling, many real estate entities have filed lawsuits to block the enforcement of the CDC’s moratorium. Do you think it’s fair for the CDC to enforce this ban on evictions?
Brookline Throws Shade at the B.A.A. The Boston Marathon was postponed by 6 months this year due to COVID. The new date for this year’s marathon is Monday Oct. 11th, which also happens to be Columbus Day, or Indigenous Peoples Day. Every year the Boston Athletic Association requests permits from the towns that their race runs through. When the B.A.A. went to request a permit from Brookline, they were met with harsh criticism from some board members for how the race fell on Indigenous Peoples Day. Vice Chairman Raul Fernandez said the B.A.A.’s decision to hold the race on Oct. 11th was one more example of how Indigenous People in their community “are continuously left out of conversations.” Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby joins Jordan to discuss.
Where Is Everyone? The COVID pandemic heavily changed the economy and the labor force in America as a whole. Many workers were laid off, furloughed, or simply quit due to unpredictable times. Others worked from home never to come back to the office. Now, in a post vaccination world as we attempt to get back to normal the workforce is met with heavy understaffing. The restaurant industry, retail industry, and many other industries across the board are struggling to find help and keep up with labor demands. Have you experienced understaffing in your line of work? Are you someone who left your job to pursue other options? Christopher Carlozzi, Massachusetts State Director of the National Federation of Small Business, joins Jordan to discuss.
