What Does the Future Hold? Now that the Afghan government has been dismantled and the Taliban is in full control of Afghanistan, what does the future hold for that country? Despite the Taliban’s history of violence and suppression, the group wants the world to believe they have changed into a more inclusive and progressive group leaving their terrorist behavior behind. Many are not buying it. Are you? What will America’s relationship with the Taliban be moving forward?

Was It All for Nothing? The way that the United States’ exit strategy out of Afghanistan has gone, has left emotions running high for many U.S. military members. After almost 20 years of Americans serving in Afghanistan, keeping the Taliban at bay, and helping progress efforts to liberate the Afghan people, it comes as quite a blow that the Taliban has managed to take power only 11 days after the U.S. departed. Was all that blood, sweat, and tears that our U.S. military put into the war in Afghanistan for nothing?

Safety Not Guaranteed. The United States’ swift exit from Afghanistan, which led to a quick Taliban takeover, has left many U.S. citizens and allies struggling to get out of the country fast enough. According to President Biden, all U.S. military members will be gone by August 31st. When asked during a press conference if the Biden Administration can guarantee that U.S. troops will help evacuate any Americans left behind after the 31st, neither Press Secretary Jen Psaki nor National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan could guarantee that. How do you feel as an American or ally working abroad when the U.S. government refuses to guarantee your protection?
