Who is Afraid of Joe Biden? President Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke yesterday on a video call while tensions continue to escalate between Russia and Ukraine. US intelligence says Russia could begin a military offensive in Ukraine in a matter of months as it gathers up to 175,000 troops along the border. The White House says the President threatened economic measures, giving Ukraine defensive supplies and fortifying our regional allies if Russia crosses the border. Will any of these threats stop Putin?
Human Rights vs. The Olympics. The Biden administration says it will diplomatically boycott the Winter Olympics in Beijing because of China's "ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang,” even though US athletes will still be allowed to compete. Is not sending American political officials enough of a censure for human rights violations? Should our athletes be allowed to compete?
Trans-Athlete Cleans Up. A 22-year-old transgender swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania is dominating swim meets this season. Before gender re-assignment, Lia Thomas was a very competitive swimmer on the men's team. Now she is smashing records and setting Ivy League records in the women's events. Is it fair that Lia is allowed to compete against genetically female swimmers who do not have the advantage of male musculature?
