Winds On Friday, Dangerous Cold For Saturday And Stormy Weather On Monday

BOSTON, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - We're bracing for two sizable storms about to come through New England over the next few days.

The first bout of weather will impact us on Friday, with an absolute bomb of a storm off the east coast, over open ocean. The good news is it's far enough away to only sprinkle a little of the white stuff on the Cape, with some flurries possible as far west as the I-95 corridor from Boston to Providence this afternoon.

Any accumulation, only an inch or two, will be in areas south of Plymouth, including the Cape and Islands, starting as rain late in the morning then changing into snow in the afternoon, between 3 and 5 p.m.

The biggest impact from Friday's storm will be the winds, peaking from 4 p.m. through around 8 a.m. Saturday. We can expect northwesterly gusts between 30-to-40 mph west of I-95, 40-to-50 mph along the immediate coastline and 50-to-65 mph over the Cape and Islands. This could create power outages Friday night along with some wind damage.

Cold temperatures on Saturday will have you staying inside, wrapped up on the couch. Wind chill values will drop to as low as -15 to 125 degrees overnight Friday night through about midday on Saturday. And it doesn't get much better by Saturday afternoon, when we'll hit 0 to -10, as the winds die down.

Storm number two will hit us on Monday, which will impact more of the western part of the state, which could bring more rain than snow for the greater Boston area. Starting as snow west of I-95, it will likely be rain east of that. The heaviest rain and snow set to happen between 6 a.m. and 1p.m. Monday, while the rain/snow line will shift northward during that time.

It's still too early to tell how much snow we will get and the exact timing of the snow to rain changeover, but one thing is for sure, Mondays winds will also be a concern, especially over the South Coast and Cape.

As always you can tune into WBZNewsRadio for traffic and weather on the 3's.
