NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for July 20, 2022

“Code Red For Humanity”. Today President Joe Biden visited the former Brayton Point power plant in Somerset, Massachusetts. He discussed the ongoing climate crisis the world is facing, a “Code Red For Humanity”. Biden announced new executive actions on climate that includes $2.3 billion for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program that will help communities protect against extreme weather. MIT Professor of Energy Economics, Christopher Knittel, joins Dan to discuss the transition to new energy.

The Housing Market’s “Meltdown”. Top economists are warning that the U.S. housing market is currently in a "meltdown" that will continue to see a sharp drop in sales. Inflation, high interest rates, and production bottlenecks are not only causing builders to halt construction on new homes making housing more limited, but buyers are getting priced out of the market. Are you worried homeownership might be farther out of reach for you? Are you trying to downsize but are struggling to get any buyers for your current home? Dan discusses the state of the current and future housing market.

The Argument Over Identifying Human Remains. There is a debate afoot in the world of archeology over whether to identify human remains as male or female. Gender activists argue that scientists cannot possibly know how an ancient individual identified themselves so they should refrain from labeling. Some archeologists in favor of applying biological sex to remains say that by doing so it dispels myths and false stereotypes detrimental to women. Dan wants to know where you come down on sexing skeletal remains.
