As New England awaits the weekend arrival of Hurricane Lee, it’s already been an eventful weather week, with downpours causing severe flood damage in areas. As a result, a Flood Watch, issued Wednesday morning, continues into Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service also released a rip current statement for the South Coast, Cape and Islands that will last into Saturday.

Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue through Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. Storms to the south and southwest of the city could contain damaging wind gusts.

As Lee moves closer to New England Friday night into Saturday, the Boston Area and areas inland will be breezy to windy with some showers. The South Shore, South Coast, Cape and Islands will see stronger winds and heavier pockets of rain. Temperatures are expected to stay in the 60s from Friday night into Saturday.

Hurricane Lee will bring rough surf, strong rip currents, coastal flooding and beach erosion to the south facing beaches, starting today. Those problems will flip to the North Shore as the storm passes by. AccuWeather predicts rain and wind from the storm will impact the entire Boston Area, with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour in the city; 80 on the Cape and Islands.

Residents near the coast need to prepare for potential power outages and damage to structures from wind and rain.
