The Steward Health Crisis. Steward Health Care, the company that owns eight hospitals in Massachusetts is $9 billion dollars in debt and filed for bankruptcy back in May. The company has been trying to sell off its hospitals. Despite lining up buyers for six of the MA hospitals, Steward postponed, for the fourth time now, a final sales hearing before a federal judge. Carney Hospital in Boston and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Massachusetts are slotted to close at the end of August. We discuss this healthcare “crisis” in MA.
Boylston Street’s Bike Lane… A recent piece in the Boston Globe assesses the necessity of a bike lane on Boylston Street in Boston. The columnist writes, this is “not a screed against bicycles…or a shot at our mayor” but rather makes the point, “you can be pro-bike and advocate for bike lanes without feeling compelled to cram them onto every imaginable thoroughfare.” We ask you, is the Boylston Street bike lane necessary?
Trump & Harris Tout the Same Policy. Back in June, at a campaign rally in Las Vegas, Donald Trump proposed eliminating taxes on tips for hospitality and service workers. This past weekend, also at a campaign rally in Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris proposed eliminating taxes for service and hospitality workers. Coincidence or not?
