NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for August 15, 2025

NightSide News Update. We kick off the program with four news stories and different guests on the stories we think you need to know about! For one of our segments this evening we will learn about the bacteria that can cause a rare flesh-eating disease, which infected a swimmer on Cape Cod.

Boston Bomber Keeps Stalling. Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev wants the First Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider removing the judge overseeing the lengthy legal battle over his death sentence. During the 2015 trial, U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. declined defense requests to investigate two jurors’ potentially biased social-media activity. Last month a smaller 3 judge panel denied Tsarnaev's bid to get O'Toole thrown out, now the defense is asking all ten active First Circuit judges to revisit the decision. The move shows yet another attempt by Tsarnaev and his team to stall and avoid the death penalty at all costs. We will ask listeners their thoughts on Tsarnaev's sentence.

Trump’s Big Meeting in Alaska. President Trump heads to Alaska Friday for a meeting with Russian President Putin, with hopes of finding a way to end the war in Ukraine. The White House has called this meeting a "listening exercise," and Trump has said he plans to assess whether any type of peace deal can be made. We will discuss whatever comes out of this summit between Trump and Putin.

20th Hour. NightSide’s last hour of the week, where we tend to choose a light and conversational topic, is to be determined at this time.
