BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Summer is busy season for cat shelters like the Black Cat Rescue in Boston.
Kristin Taylor, a board member of the non-profit rescue, said that shelters experience a rise in kittens and pregnant cats during the hotter months. The Black Cat Rescue is a foster based cat rescue organization.
With spaces in animal shelters filling up, Taylor said that having volunteer foster families are especially critical.
“We say we’re here for the under-cats,” she said. “So, a lot of our cats may have some special needs that we make sure they get off with the best families who can provide them care.”
That's because black cats are more often overlooked compared to their colorful peers, she added, and that's why the Black Cat Rescue works to find a home for as many black cats as possible.
Midnight, is one of those cats. She wears a diaper and is currently living with a foster family where she is recovering from a dog attack that left her with nerve damage and an amputated tail.
“She’s also very playful and very outgoing,” Ting, her foster dad, said. “She loves humans, jumps on us all the time.”
Taylor said the rescue currently has around 30 black cats in foster care, “really ranging from little kittens that’s just born to some older cats who are a little more senior.”
And they are open for more volunteer foster families. For more information on the rescue league, visit their website here.
