A Partial Shut Down On MBTA Red Line Due To Maintenance Work

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA Red Line is partially shut down due to maintenance work until Sunday and from July 17 through July 20.

The MBTA said the closure began Thursday night between Kendall/MIT and JFK/UMass stations. The same work will also take place next week starting Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20.

Free Commuter Rail services will be available to T riders from South Station to Braintree and North Station to Porter during the closures. Free shuttle buses will also replace Red Line routes.

Blue Cross Blue Shield is also offering $20 free Bluebikes ride credit this summer during MBTA closures.  

The credit applied to more than 550 stations in 13 communities, including Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Newton, Revere, Salem, Somerville, and Watertown.
