SOUTH HAMILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A woman dragging two large tires behind her has become a common sight on the North Shore.

For almost three years, 36-year-old Monet Eliastam has been training for an epic adventure to the South Pole.

She hopes to become the first woman to cross-country ski, alone and unsupported, through Antarctica.

Using her middle name, Monet has developed a large following on social media as Monet Izabeth.

Dragging two large Jeep tires behind her as she makes her way through fields, woods, and beaches is a part of her rigorous training regimen. "Fun is not a word I would use," she said while laughing.

In fact, she said her training is meant to be tougher than the expedition itself. "In that sense, I feel ready and prepared. But there's also this big question mark of, what is it going to throw at me?"

She said her extreme daily workout is necessary, designed to prepare her for a 700-mile trek on ice and snow in some of the most unforgiving climates in the world, all while lugging a sled that contains 250 pounds of food and gear.

The 36-year-old grew up in Weston and has been staying with her mother in South Hamilton while she trains.

Singing Beach has been a regular training spot to help prepare her body and her mind. "The thing you learn about yourself doing these is that you have the ability within yourself to deal with whatever the expedition and the environment will throw your way," she said.

Izabeth's trek begins next month in November.
