BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — MassDOT Aeronautics is investing over $8 million towards making public-use airports safer around the Commonwealth with a program working towards improving runway infrastructure.
The pavement maintenance program runs through the spring of 2027 and includes enhancements such as runway sealing, repairing airport pavement and surface treatments, according to a press release.
“Timely preventative maintenance ensures these critical hubs remain safe, efficient, and ready to serve everyone who depends on them for business, travel, and emergency response,” Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt said in a statement from the release.
Not all airports are undergoing these changes – Logan International Airport, Hanscom Field and Worcester Regional Airport are excluded from that list since they are owned and operated by Massport.
The maintenance contract is available to the remaining 34 airports MassDOT oversees.
