BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Berklee College Of Music has made some big changes to its staff.

Amid shifting policies and rising costs within education, the school said they laid off 70 employees.

Berklee has confirmed to WBZ NewsRadio that the reduction in staff made up 3% of their employee base. No faculty positions were impacted by the layoffs.

A note from President of Berklee College Jim Lucchese said the following to staff on Friday:

“This is by far the hardest step we’ve had to take, as it affects valued colleagues and friends who have made lasting contributions to our work, our culture, and to the soul of Berklee. Recognizing the impact of these changes on people who have given so much to Berklee, all affected employees will be offered severance compensation, subsidized health care continuation, and career transition support.”

According to Berklee, all programs and academic offerings are to continue as usual.
