BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts announced Thursday it is offering free $20 Bluebikes credits this summer ahead of anticipated MBTA shutdowns.
The credit can be redeemed by entering the code BLUECROSSMAMBTA2 in the rewards section of the Bluebikes app.
"Summer is one of the best times to take advantage of bikeshare, and we want to make it easier for people to keep moving while MBTA service is disrupted,” Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs at Blue Cross, said. “This $20 Bluebikes credit reflects our commitment to expanding access to active transportation and building healthier, more connected communities.”
Starting at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, the MBTA Red Line will be shutdown for maintenance work between the Kendall/MIT and JFK/UMass stops. Free shuttle buses will be running, though shuttles will stop at Haymarket and State Street instead of Park Street station. Commuter Rail trains between Braintree and South Station and Porter and North Station will also be free.
The T is urging riders to "budget ample extra travel time." The shutdown lasts through end of service on Sunday.
