BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fireworks won’t be the only thing lighting up the Hatch Shell on Friday.
The Fourth of July celebration kicks off with a performance from the Boston Pops, joined by the Boston Children’s Chorus. The event is the first time the groups have reunited in over a decade.
BCC has performers as young as six to high school. Music Director Kenneth Griffith said the kids are ready to put on a show.
“First time we’ve been with the Pops for this event since 2014, so we’re really excited to be here to bring a bit of youth and fun and hope,” Griffith said. “It’s a very special moment, an opportunity for our city to come together, and we’re really glad that Boston Children’s Chorus gets to be ambassadors of hope and harmony for our city.”
The BCC and Boston Pops aren’t the only ones reuniting at the concert.
“One of the songs we’re singing is ‘After the Storm,’ that’ll be with Leslie Odom Jr. We’re super excited to reconnect with him,” said Griffith. “We haven’t performed with him for a little while, but he’s familiar to BCC. We’re really excited to welcome him back to Boston and to have that partnership there.”
The concert will begin at 7 p.m.
