BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — City Hall Plaza looks like a scene from the Wild West this weekend. Horses, cows, cowboys, and cowgirls are in town for Boston’s first ever outdoor rodeo.
The Boston Rodeo took over Boston’s City Hall Plaza on Saturday, offering all activities you would see in a old Western film including, bull riding, barrel racing, and bareback riding. The demand was there for Bostonians as GA tickets were sold out in the days leading to the event.
There’s plenty to do for all spectators of all ages according to the rodeo organizers.
“It’s bull riding, it’s horses, it’s people lassoing, it’s everything. Versus PBR which is just bull riding, we’re a more holistic rodeo,” one of the rodeo organizers Eddie McHugh said.
“Really sit back and watch what we do. This is all entertainment, we have super healthy animals and awesome contestants. This is something to kind of keep the cowboy way going,” Rodeo performer Dylan Murphy said.
A great effort from the rodeo organizers was needed to build the impressive stage for Boston’s first taste of a live Old-Western event.
“We’re shipping in 22 semi-trucks worth of dirt, building an arena and taking it down all within 24 hours. Once the rodeo is done, we’re going to the animals out, take down the pen, and have a full headline music festival,” McHugh said.
Come Saturday night, the rodeo will be converted to stage to host a country western music fest. The music festival is headlined by Evan Honer and Kassi Ashton.
