BROOKLINE (WBZ NewsRadio) — With it's license approved by the Cannabis Control Commission, a Brookline medical marijuana dispensary is preparing to become Greater Boston's first recreational pot outlet.

New England Treatment Access, or NETA, a medical dispensary in Brookline, is housed in an old Bank at the corner of Washington Street and Route 9, just outside Boston's city limits. Sales could begin in weeks.

It's an already busy square, and if the recent history of openings of recreational dispensaries is anything to go by, it will soon get a lot busier. Brookline Police expect thousands of eager customers to flock to NETA when it expands to adult retail.

"It's just like, that's how it goes," Nick, who lives down the street, told WBZ NewsRadio's Kendall Buhl. "A dispensary opens, everyone's gonna flood to it right away—especially since this is the first one anywhere really in the vicinity of Boston, pretty much in Boston."

Nick said he wasn't too concerned because he doesn't drive himself.

Matt, a parent who drops his son off at a daycare next door every weekday, said NETA runs a tight ship.

"When there were long lines earlier on, they would make sure they were managed," he said. "They do the best job of shoveling their sidewalk in the neighborhood. It'll be messy for a bit, but it'll clean up as other shops open, and I'm sure they'll keep it organized."

He said he's not worried, and that he's excited that his town will be getting a cut of what is sure to be NETA's commercial success.
