CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tuesday is National Dessert Day. Mama's, a grocery and wine store in Cambridge, has become a popular spot for soft serve ice cream, particularly their Vermont Maple Creemee.

“It's like really really delicious creamy creamy soft serve that tastes like maple syrup,” Mama’s employee Peter said. “It's Vermont milk, eggs, maple syrup, and that's basically it.”

Peter explained that the maple concoction is made by a northern dairy farm they work with.

The store has been selling the creemees since they opened just outside Davis Square in May 2023, and they have been popular enough to be kept around all year long.

“I believe to my knowledge we’re the only shop in Massachusetts that serves maple creemees year-round,” Peter said. “Even though we don't have quite as many people coming in for creemees as we did in the middle of the summer, people are still showing up; New Englanders love their ice cream, even in the winter.”

According to several employees, the summer is still far and away the most popular time for the creemees, with Peter explaining one of the store’s busiest days.

“Our record-setting day, we did 600 cones this summer.”

Miya was also there for that record-breaking day, but she said how she doesn’t mind the chaos.

“Yeah, it was pretty bonkers,” she said. “Balancing it in the summer is quite the game, but kind of a fun; it’s produce, wine, and ice cream, so all you're doing is making people happy.”

For National Dessert Day, the store made sure to give the creemee machine a deep clean, so it is ready to serve up whatever creemees they need to.
