Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans Will Be Laid To Rest Thursday In Mass.

ADAMS, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts native and U.S. Capitol Police Officer William "Billy" Evans will be laid to rest on Thursday, after he was killed in the line of duty earlier this month.

Evans was born and raised in North Adams before moving to Clarksburg with his family. He graduated from Drury High School in 1998 and then attended Western New England University in Springfield.

Evans attended the federal Law Enforcement Training Centers and became a U.S. Capitol Police officer in March 2003. He was an 18-year veteran of the force.

Evans was killed in an attack at the Capitol on April 2, when a car drove through the North Barricade where Evans was stationed.

His body laid in honor at the Capitol Rotunda this week. On Tuesday, President Joe Biden and congressional leaders paid tribute to Evans during a ceremony.

On Wednesday evening, American flags lined the procession route as his body was brought back to his hometown. The procession started in Connecticut and ended in Adams.

A private funeral will be held on Thursday in Adams, where he will be buried next to his father at Bellevue Cemetery.

Community members are invited to gather Thursday at 1 p.m. on Park Street in Adams to pay their respects.

Evans left behind a wife and two young children.
