AMESBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury is holding a week-long festival in honor of pollinators.

Co-owner of the farm Jennifer Durocher gave a rundown of the festivities going on, whether that be the honey, hard cider and jam tastings for the adults, the pollinator-themed story-time geared towards the kids, or the events for all ages.

“We’ve got some local makers coming in to share their creations, some food venders, also some musicians,” Durocher said. “If we have strawberry picking going on, they are more than welcome to take part in that. And we also have our barnyard area, so for the little ones there’s definitely plenty to do and see.”

She also talked about the farm’s goal with the festival in emphasizing just how important pollinators are to the farming world.

“It’s kind of a moment for us as farmers to take a pause and remember that we are only as good as our pollinators,” Durocher said. “It’s also a great opportunity to educate our community.”

Cider Hill Farm Program Director Valerie Rosenberg echoed Durocher’s sentiments, while also highlighting the many pollinators that leave their impact on farmers everywhere.

“Bees, butterflies, birds, bats, and ladybugs, all of those beautiful creatures that are responsible for spreading the pollen to create the food that we eat,” she said.

Rosenberg also pointed out what she felt was a great place to take pictures at the event: a giant set of butterfly wings.

“Our butterfly wing is about 8 feet tall by 3 feet wide, so you can stand in the center, little ones can stand in the center and pretend to be a butterfly,” Rosenberg said.

The festival will run through Sunday, June 22.
