LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A summertime treat will be a little harder to find late at night in Lynn, Mass.
In response to noise complaints from residents, Lynn’s Board of Health has banned ice cream trucks from operating after 8 p.m. The ban is set to go into effect on Aug. 16.
Reaction has been mixed among residents, but ice cream truck operators were not happy to hear about the new ban. One ice cream truck driver said it should have been a community discussion and that he would have gladly lowered the music.
Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson also seemed to push back on the new restriction following residents’ feedback.
“Our office has asked the Board of Health to reconsider how the goals behind this proposed change might be achieved through less restrictive intervention and ensure that any local action we take is aligned with existing state regulations," said Nicholson in a statement.

WBZ NewsRadio’s Chaiel Schaffel asked Lynn residents what they thought of the ban, or if they had any ideas on how to improve the regulation.
“You know, it’s hard to get your kids to eat supper or go to bed if there’s an ice cream truck. No ice cream for dinner,” said one resident.
“I think it’s, like, a perfect time,” said another resident.
“Maybe [it should be] around 10 p.m. or something like that,” said another resident.
“I think [9 p.m.] might be better. It’s just a picky thing. The kids aren’t sleeping yet and there’s guys trying to make a living,” said another resident.
“Kids are still out; the park is still open. I think it should depend on [when’s] sunset,” said another resident.
