CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Pride Month may be coming to an end, but the festivities aren’t slowing down for a Jewish Deli in Cambridge.
Mamaleh's Deli introduced a cookie baking class on Thursday, introducing Black and White cookies with a fun rainbow swirl inside, celebrating LGBTQ pride.
Pastry chef Chelsea Kantor spoke about the careful work and dedication that goes into making the creative cookie.
“The way that we make it a little bit more festive for Pride is that we dye our cookie base to make this cool tie-dye rainbow surprise on the inside,” Kantor said. “The way that we do it here in the restaurant is we actually mix six different batters, and we dye them each individually, so we do each color of the rainbow.”
While at their production kitchen in Somerville, co-founder Rachel Sundet spoke about bringing their Jewish roots and baking together with Pride Month.
“For pride, we have historically made lots of different rainbow-themed products, but these black and white cookies have been a special, fun, and well-received thing that we’ve done in the past,” Sundet said. “I think it’s a special month, it’s very much in line with our beliefs of being all inclusive and welcoming to everybody in the community.”
Everyone in the class got the chance to learn how to bake and glaze their own cookies.
