DCR Opens Swimming Pools For The Summer, Hiring Lifeguards

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has opened swimming pools for the season starting Saturday.

Boston has been under a summer heat advisory since Friday and temperatures are expected to soar to the 90s through the weekend. DCR officially opened 24 swimming pools as well as staffed more than 30 beaches with lifeguards.

More than 580 lifeguards were hired, and they will be on duty at local beaches seven days a week. The agency is still filling positions for certified lifeguards. For information, visit here.

Cambridge: McCrehan Memorial and Veterans Memorial Pool

Chelsea: Vietnam Veterans Pool     

Chicopee: Sara Jane Sherman Memorial Pool

Clinton: Philip Weihn Pool

Everett: Allied Veterans Memorial Pool

Fall River: Veteran's Memorial Swimming Pool       

Fitchburg: Gustave Johnson Memorial Pool

Hyde Park: Olsen Swimming Pool   

Lawrence: Geisler Memorial Pool and Lt. Colonel Edward J. Higgins Pool           

Lowell: Raymond Lord Memorial Pool

Malden: Holland Memorial Pool       

Melrose: Lloyd Memorial Pool

Milford: P. Eugene Casey Pool

Roxbury: Cass Memorial Pool

Somerville: Latta Brothers Memorial Pool
