BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Both Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will return to the big screen this summer, but not for anything new.
Instead, the Boston pair will feature in the return of 1999's fantasy movie “Dogma,” which is being released in theaters to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The event is dubbed “Dogma: The Resurrection Tour.” The film, directed by Kevin Smith, will be shown in U.S. and Canada with a 4k restoration.
Affleck and Damon depict two fallen angels, Loki and Bartleby, as they attempt to make it back into heaven through a loophole that could destroy the universe. The film also stars familiar faces like Chris Rock and Salma Hayek.
The film is also notorious for not being easily accessible to watch, as the rights for the film are now owned by Shining Excalibur Pictures. The company was owned by Harvey Weinstein and has yet to release the film on streaming services.
Smith made a post on his Instagram announcing the tour, stating “The second coming of DOGMA happens in a theater near you on June 5th!" in the caption. He also announced there will be Q&A screenings before the June 5 releases.
While the national release in AMC theatres is set for June 5, early screenings begin on April 20 in Los Angeles. A Boston screening is set for May 3. While many shows have been sold out, Smith has said there will be second screenings.
Tickets can be purchased at the film's website.
