MANCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With Former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld announcing he has launched a Presidential Exploratory Committee, WBZ NewsRadio spoke with Neil Levesque, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College Friday.
Levesque is familiar with the political landscape when it comes to potential presidential candidates.
Historically, New Hampshire is the first state to hold a Primary election in the Presidential election cycle before anyone else — with their known status as “First In The Nation.”
Levesque tells WBZ NewsRadio that while Weld is a recognizable name among New Hampshire voters, he faces quite a challenge if he decides to run.
That’s because President Donald Trump is very popular in the Granite State.
“He is well known in New Hampshire and his message will probably resonate with a group of Republicans and potential Independent voters here in the state, that’s on the plus side for the Governor,” said Levesque.
“On the negative side…the fact that Donald Trump is very solid and has been straight through for Republican primary voters here in New Hampshire. So as far the President goes…within the party he is strong and makes it for a tough challenge for anyone including the former Governor of Massachusetts,” he said.
