BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A popular grocery store chain is preparing to move into a neighborhood in West Roxbury.

The building at 1999 Center St., which was once home to a Walgreens, is being transformed into a Trader Joe’s. Some residents in the area are concerned it will cause even more traffic on an already busy part of the neighborhood.

“It does get crazy when school gets out around here. Traffic is really bad, but I hear it’s a good store, so maybe people will like it,” said John.

With the Patrick Lyndon Pilot School, Roxbury Latin, Catholic Memorial, and Saint Theresa Elementary School all located in the area, some parents are worried that Trader Joe’s will make traffic even worse. Amidst the construction, the parking lot has been used as a place to drop off kids at one of the nearby schools.

Erin is a mother and has been taking advantage of the vacant parking lot. While she is looking forward to having a Trader Joe’s in the neighborhood, she said it might cause some issues.

“I’m excited about it, but also, school drop off is already chaotic,” said Erin. “We’ll find somewhere new to park, but it’s going to take some getting used to.”

For Steve, another resident in the area, the incoming Trader Joe’s has been great news.

“I’m excited. It might make traffic go a little crazy, but whatever,” said Steve. “West Roxbury, believe it or not, [is] a very walkable neighborhood, contrary to what a lot of people feel or think. I think having this right here could really add to that.”

As of now, there is no official opening day for the Trader Joe’s.
