BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Youth football in Massachusetts could soon be a thing of the past as two local lawmakers seek to ban tackle football for children in seventh grade and younger.

Rep. Paul A Schmid III and Rep. Bradley H. Jones, Jr. have proposed a bill that would ban children from participating in "organized tackle football." Schools or other leagues that disobey the proposed law could face fines of $2,000, up-to $5,000 for subsequent violations. Fines of $10,000 have been designated for violations that result in "serious physical harm" to participants.

In addition to Schid and Jones, Bill HD.2501 is cosponsored by fifteen other state legislators.
