Marlborough Home Broken Into, Cleaned From Top To Bottom

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — You could say whoever broke into Nate Roman's Marlborough home made a clean getaway.

It's been one week since Roman's house near Hildreth School had some uninvited visitors. But instead of ransacking the place, they cleaned it.

"As soon as I walk in the house, it's just clear something's off," he told WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas.

Roman was coming back home with his five-year-old son when they discovered their back door open.

"The bathrooms had been cleaned, that's what I'd been smelling," he said. "The toilets had been scrubbed, the floors had all been done, and eventually I found these little toilet paper roses left on the top of the toilet paper rolls, and the whole thing was so weird."

Nate's one theory is that maybe a cleaning crew came to the wrong home and walked in through the back.

"I feel pretty confident that it was a cleaning person that just showed up at the wrong house, happened to find an open door, and spent half the day cleaning the wrong house and terrifying me," he said, laughing.

Still, he said he felt very tense following the break-in, and Marlborough Police say they're still investigating.

Marlborough Police Sgt. Daniel Campbell said he's never come across a break-in where the home is cleaned and nothing is taken.

"In the thirteen years I've been on, I don't think I have, so it's a new one for us," he said. "It doesn't look like there was any intent to steal anything from the property, but there was a B&E."
