Mayor Walsh: Memorial Vandals Are 'Cowards ... We'll Find Them'

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It happened again — vandals damaging precious memorials, this time at Mount Hope cemetery in Mattapan this week.

Boston Police Detectives swabbed the memorial that honors their own—the Boston Police Memorial, one of several doused, just like in South Boston, with an oily substance.

The granite face of the police officer is soaked and stained but he still stands watch, over the Odd Fellows Memorial next to him, and the world war one memorial and world war two memorials, and the Army-Navy memorial, all vandalized.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said to WBZ NewsRadio’s Doug Cope that whomever damaged the memorials would be found — calling them ‘cowards.’

This comes just days after the world war two memorial at castle island was found vandalized -- and hours after someone decimated dozens of Jewish gravestones with Anti-Semitic graffiti in Fall River.

Boston Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the suspected vandals.
