CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tuesday at The Maynard Academy Gymnasium, the plan for the transformation of Broadway was announced to the residents of Cambridge.

From Portland Street to Quincy, over a mile of bike lanes will be installed to improve the safety of bikers with protective barriers set in place, separating cyclists from cars.

While there are residents that are in favor of the bike lanes, the other half are having concerns.

Outlined in the current plan, 60% of Cambridge parking will be removed to make room for the bike lanes. There are also growing fears of increased traffic with less parking, and the change of multiple bus stop locations.

The second open house for the discussion of the project is scheduled for Thursday at the City Hall Annex Building.

“People are able to look at the plans, they can zoom in on the areas of most concern to them, and give us really detailed feedback,” Transportation Commissioner Brooke M. McKenna said in a statement.
