WEST ROXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The parking lot at the new Trader Joe's in West Roxbury was flooded with cars on Thursday for the store's grand opening.

The store saw a stampede of eager shoppers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Residents couldn't wait to check out inside.

“I drive by this area a lot, so I’ve been watching. The other day I stopped someone coming out, an employee, and I said, ‘When do you open?’ and they said, ‘9 o’clock tomorrow,’” said one customer. “I actually dropped some commitments I had to be here.”

With everything from scented candles to salty treats, the store was bustling. Some Trader Joe’s workers from the neighboring Brookline and Seaport areas came over to assist with all the crowds, something the Store Captain Claire Summers is very thankful for.

“I think that this community is really excited, and I think this goes right back into our values of like a true neighborhood store,” said Summers. “To have the doors open up, have everybody come in, watch my group go right to helping the customers, I am so emotional and just so proud of them.”
