BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thursday marks Opening Day for the Boston Red Sox. They’re set to take on the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Thursday’s game will feature the debut of new Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet.
Crochet, who signed with the Red Sox last year, showed promising athleticism and skill during spring training. The 6’6” ace is a sign of what many fans believe is the next step to a successful season.
Rookie second baseman Kristian Campbell is also set to make his MLB debut. He’s batting sixth in Thursday’s lineup.
In addition to Opening Day, Sox fans are also celebrating 20 years since former Sox player David Ortiz was chosen as the full-time Red Sox designated hitter coming off a world championship.
This year, Sox baseman Rafael Devers was chosen as the DH for the 2025 season. Both Devers and Ortiz were chosen for DH at age 29.
