BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As the Commonwealth gets ready for Independence Day celebrations, over 40 beaches were closed across the state on Wednesday.

Most of the closures were because of high bacteria levels detected in the water.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health updates the list of closed beaches every day at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. during beach season.
