The Patriots Tried To Trade For This Superstar Receiver

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Patriots are fresh off their sixth Super Bowl win but, if you believe what Chris Simms said on Pro Football Talk Live, they may be looking to add a superstar receiver.

The Giants have reportedly been looking to trade Odell Beckham Junior since last offseason.

"The thing that stopped the trade conversation with Odell Beckham Junior is because the team that was most aggressive in pursuing him was the New England Patriots," Simms said. "That didn't work out, and I think the Giants got cold feet and said wait, New England wants him? Uh oh. Maybe he's better than we thought, maybe we should just keep him on our own instead of it being thrown in our face and him going to win a Super Bowl with the Pats."

Beckham later signed a five-year, $95 million extension, but his cap hit is $17 million and he's still presumed to be available.

The Pats may be in need of a wideout, especially a 26-year-old with incredible talent. Chris Hogan, Cordarelle Patterson, and Phillip Dorsett will all be free agents, Rob Gronkowski may retire, and Julian Edelman is just months from turning 33.

Adding fuel to the fire, Pats QB Tom Brady posted a picture to Instagram Saturday of his three kids enjoying a sunset, and OBJ responded, "Love u brother."

Stay tuned.
