PORTSMOUTH, NH — (WBZ NewsRadio) Portsmouth Police are mourning the loss of Max, a K-9 with the department.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Portsmouth Police Department K9 Max," the department wrote in a Facebook post. "He was an ambassador to our beautiful city, partner and best friend to one of our finest officers, and beloved teammate of our tactical team."
Max died from complications during surgery for an on-duty injury, WMUR reports.
"You will be missed and your life mattered," the message goes on. "End of Watch 5/23/19."
