BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — They say the early bird gets the worm, but they didn't say the bird had to get up before sunrise.

According to Psychology Today, a third of the population wakes up around 3 a.m. for a variety of reasons that don't include worms.

From age to anxiety, the rationale behind slumber interruptions varies among different people. Darby had to catch an early morning flight out of Logan Airport.

"I probably wake up like once a night fully. But when I do have an early morning wake-up call, I definitely wake up more."

Then there are the lucky two-thirds of the population who, like Daniel, can sleep through anything.

"Deep sleeper — nothing gets me up."

And if you are one of the few who have to wake up, stumble in the kitchen to pour yourself a cup of ambition, and clock in before the 9-to-5 shift to make a living, waking up at the crack of dawn is a part of the gig.

"I wake up at 3 o'clock every morning to go to work," said one Bostonian.
