BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Actress Elizabeth Banks is reportedly set to play Karen Read in a limited series based on Read's high-profile murder trial.
The series is being developed by Prime Video and Warner Bros Television, according to Deadline. Justin Noble, co-creator of "The Sex Lives Of College Girls" and a writer for "Brooklyn 99," has been named as the showrunner.
Banks is a Pittsfield, Mass. native and Emmy-nominated actress. Some of her most notable roles include Effie Trinket in "The Hunger Games" and Avery Jessup in "30 Rock." She also directed "Pitch Perfect 2," "Charlie's Angels," and "Cocaine Bear."
Banks is also set to be an executive producer on the Karen Read series, according to reports.
Read was acquitted of all charges except OUI during second murder trial. Her first trial ended in a hung jury. Read was accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV and leaving him for dead in the snow in January of 2022.
