BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ryan Reynolds came to Boston for a screening of his new documentary "John Candy: I Like Me."
Reynolds came on stage to speak after the showing at the Shubert Theatre. Him and Brookline Native, Conan O'Brien, shared how they related to the late John Candy and their feelings about the film and said they hope "after seeing the film that you do know John Candy better."
"I have noticed that people have gathered the same thing I collected from that, I'm a people pleaser, I've dealt with some mental health stuff in the past and John certainly battled those demons," Reynolds said.
Fans of the late and beloved Candy from all over the state came to the screening, "I couldn't miss it for sure," one said. They shared laughs and some tears while looking back on his life and legacy. "I just thought it was so beautifully done and I grew up watching John Candy so I'm really glad to be here," one said. "I was excited to see my childhood on the screen and Ryan Reynolds at the end," said another.
Reynolds said he hoped the film would show the audience a better look into who Candy really was. "He was a really good person when nobody was watching and that is a scarce resource in our world today and even back then," Reynolds said.
The documentary is streaming on Amazon Prime.
