BOURNE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new timeline shows construction on the Sagamore Bridge won't begin for more than a year, but many Cape Cod residents are hoping for a quick completion.
In the latest timeline from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, there isn't a construction notice scheduled for the bridge until 2027-2028. Before that, bid proposal requests will begin this Fall, and by Fall 2027, all property acquisitions must be completed.
With so many moving parts in play, Bourne residents like Cheryl are hoping to get the work over with as soon as possible.
“We want the bridge repaired,” said Cheryl. “We feel that the repairs should be a priority.”
Completion for both lanes of traffic isn’t planned until 2036-2037, marking a 10-year construction period. Many people, like Ryan from Dennis, aren’t looking forward to their detours.
“I think if they’re going to do that, we’ll probably have to really plan our trips better,” said Ryan.
More information on the timeline of the Sagamore Bridge construction can be found on the MassDOT website here.
