LEOMINSTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) -- A 17-year-old high school student was arrested on school grounds Wednesday and charged with illegal possession of ammunition. Police say a firearm was later recovered from his home.
According to police, another student reported the incident to school officials after seeing reference to the firearm on Snapchat. School resource officers "contacted the department and ended up speaking with a 17-year-old student up there who was found in possession of a magazine loaded with ammo for a handgun," Police Chief Michael Goldman told WBZ NewsRadio.
"The firearm did not belong to him or a parent," Goldman added. "There was no threat to the school. We know where the firearm came from, we think we know how they came into possession of it, but it was not to threaten the school or threaten anybody."
This was not the first interaction between the suspect and police, and more students may be involved. "We have had minor interaction with him, but nothing that would rise to this level," Goldman said. "At least one other student may be charged."
