Tax Refunds Expected To Be About 8 Percent Smaller

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tax refunds are expected to be smaller by about 8 percent this year.

When the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was passed, major changes were made in tax code.

“There are certain state deductions, withholdings that don’t exist anymore that people used to use that would have given them a larger refund,” Boston accountant Elechi Kadete said.

On average, according to Kadete, a taxpayer might receive about $170 less in their refund check this year.

“That money went to the top, meaning the top one percent,” Kadete said.
