ALLSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 14-year-old was arrested at Cheema Supermarket for Assault and Battery charges on Tuesday. Boston Police Operations reported there was allegedly an incident involving twelve teens that attacked three different people.

Onlookers say the group of juveniles threw a firecracker into the Asian supermarket off Cambridge Street, causing a shopper to confront the group. The shopper took out their phone to record the group.

According to Boston Police, a teen allegedly smacked the phone out of the shopper’s hands and pushed them to the ground, then grabbing a broom from another onlooker and beating others who tried to intervene. The teen also punched and kicking the victims multiple times. All victims declined medical treatment.

Police say they were approached by a fourth victim when they arrived, stating the group of teens left towards Brighton Avenue. Officers identified and arrested the suspect, and the remaining youths scattered as police arrived.

Boston City Leaders, including Mayor Michelle Wu, will hold a closed-door meeting discussing violence in Boston Common and Downtown Crossing on Thursday at 5 p.m. Data from the BPD showed crime has been sitting high for the past seven years in those areas, but some Allston people are hoping their neighborhood gets some recognition.

“The violence isn’t right, it isn’t good, but we need to invest in our youth and community policing,” one Allston resident told WBZ NewsRadio. “Make a difference in their lives so they can become good citizens, you know?”

Boston Police say the suspect was charged with three counts of Assault and Battery on a Person Over Sixty, four counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on a Person Over Sixty, one count of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Malicious Destruction of Property.

All four victims declined medical treatment and the suspect is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
