GLOUCESTER , Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The reenactment for the Battle of Bunker Hill will take place in Gloucester this weekend in honor of the 250th anniversary of the historical event.

The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on June 17, 1775. To commemorate the historical milestone, the 250th committee decided to bring the reenactment back to Massachusetts.

“Last time it was in New Hampshire, but this is a signature event for the 250th anniversaries, we had to hold it in Massachusetts,” Doug, one of the event organizers, told WBZ NewsRadio.

State Fort Park in the City of Gloucester will be packed with re-enactors in revolutionary soldier uniforms and spectators starting Saturday.

Doug said it’s the perfect place to put on the event with its large space and access to public transportation.

“It’s got a large hill right in the middle of the park, and we can camp a large number of soldiers here,” he added.

Gloucester Mayor Greg Verga said the city is no stranger to hosting events like this. “We’ve been on the map for quite a few things over the years, like movies and other historical events. This one is just the latest feather in our cap.”

The Battle of Bunker Hill reenactment begins bright and early Saturday at 8 a.m.
