BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Boston Planning Department is offering an easy way to clean your bike.
The CycleWASH was announced in a social media post from the department, detailing its location in the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park at 12 Drydock Avenue in the Seaport and the fact that it is free and available for use 24/7. The post also included a video explaining how to use the machine.
It works like a mini car wash, in which you put the bike through one side, have it move through the spraying water and brushes, to then have it come out the other side all cleaned.
The Planning Department explained that CycleWASH was created by CW Cleaning Solutions and is designed to promote sustainable transportation.
Sam was one of the bikers to use the machine, and he felt it worked nicely and wasn’t too confusing.
“Worked through it with the instructions and the buttons and seems to be going all right,” Sam said. “It’s definitely cleaner than it was, and I'm going to be taking the wheels off my bike later today anyway, so I'm glad that they got some water on them.”

Benjamin has also seen the machine in action a few times, saying that when he does see someone use it, the success rate is mixed.
“I don't often see people use it, but when I do, it either goes one of two ways either one,” Benjamin said. “They know how to use it and know the ins and outs, or two, they put their bike in with some sort of rack on it and then they have to wrestle to get it out.”
Despite the occasional mishaps in usage, Benjamin felt that this promotion of biking was great, especially in a city like Boston.
“I think Boston is a very bikeable city, it’s certainly much better than driving. I used to do bike taxis in Boston, and I always would tell my customers ‘Man, Boston is like you took a handful of what spaghetti noodles and you threw that at the map and that's where the streets go,’” he said. “I think it’s a great thing to have just to keep you bike in nice shiny working order.”
The Planning Department says that the CycleWASH will be available until next winter.
