BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – The New England Patriots are sending some relief to Haiti following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the country last week and killed more than 2,000 people.

The team’s Boeing 767 plane was being loaded with supplies and major medical equipment at Logan Airport Friday.

The supplies are intended to treat the over 12,000 individuals taking up hospital beds in Haiti. The plane will take off Saturday.

The rescue and recovery efforts in the country have been slowed by extreme rain and mudslides caused by Tropical Storm Grace. It is estimated that more than 600,000 people are in need of humanitarian assistance, according to WBZ-TV.

This is not the first time the Patriots have put their plane to good use.

In May they delivered half a million Covid vaccines to El Salvador. The plane also flew to China at the start of the pandemic to bring over a million N95 masks back to Massachusetts.
