BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A day after the public learned that Tom Brady is only guaranteed one year left on his contract with the Patriots, Brady and his wife, Gisele Bündchen, have put their family's Chestnut Hill home on the market.
According to realtor.com, the mansion is 9,716 square feet in size, complete with five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms. The $39,500,000 property sits on a five-and-a-quarter-acre lot.
To add to speculation, the New York Post reports Brady and Bündchen have been looking at homes in Connecticut and New Jersey as of late.
Fans have been left wondering: does this mean Brady's days as New England's quarterback are numbered?
"Yeah, I definitely worry about him leaving," one Patriots fan on Boston Common told WBZ NewsRadio's Carl Stevens Tuesday. "Really, really, really hoping that him and Bill [Belichick] have a good plan ... but Tom's getting older, so we gotta respect that and let him have his family and enjoy his time."
The former MVP celebrated his 42nd birthday on Saturday, and then went on to sign a two-year, $70 million extension, which fans celebrated. But more details of the deal came to light on Monday—including a clause that could make Brady a free agent at the end of the next season.
If the Patriots so choose, they can void the extension when the 2019 season is over, just as he's on the cusp of turning 43. This would make Brady an unrestricted free agent for the first time since he's played in the League.
Brady, who has been with the Patriots since 2000, said it is "pretty much uncharted territory, I think, for everybody."
"It's really the reality for most guys in the NFL," Brady said. "I don't want to think that I'm any different than anyone else. Football's a tough business. It's a production business. I'm ready to go this year, and that's really what matters. That's really where my focus is."
Despite all this, Brady assured fans he's not looking to leave the Patriots. He's won six championships, three MVPs, and he's a 14-time Pro Bowler—and he's accomplished all that in New England.
"You know I love playing quarterback here, I love this team, the organization, Mr. Kraft, Jonathan, Coach Belichick, all the coaches, all the players," Brady said. "The focus is this year, and what we gotta do. That's where I'm focused, that's all that really matters in the end. That's what this team expects, for me to put everything into it like I always have, and I'm really excited for the year."
Would he like to have more certainty, though?
"I'm really not worried about it," Brady said. "I'm secure for this year, I think! Least I get a few first-team reps out there. I'm just gonna do go out there and try to do the best I can."
