BOSTON (AP) — Officials say Vermont Gov. Phil Scott is exploring whether the state should institute a ban on the sale of vaping products.

Scott's communication director Rebecca Kelley says he is "concerned" about the health impact of vaping products on young people in Vermont.

Declaring a public health emergency in light of vape-related illnesses, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker issued a ban on the sale of vaping products in the Commonwealth through January.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed a ban on the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes Sept. 15. On Tuesday, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker ordered a four-month banon the sale of all vaping products in retail stores and online.

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo signed an executive order banning the sale of flavored electronic nicotine-delivery system products on Wednesday.

And in Maine, a state senator says she's going to introduce a bill to ban the sale of vaping products in the wake of concerns about illnesses and deaths stemming from them.

The Portland Press Herald reports Democratic Sen. Rebecca Millett, of Cape Elizabeth, feels the U.S. Food and Drug Administration must determine if the vaping products are safe to use.

Millett says there isn't enough research on the products to determine how dangerous they are. She's making the proposal after more than 500 people have been sickened in the country with illnesses stemming from vaping.

Massachusetts Republican Gov. Charlie Baker has declared a public health emergency in his state and announced a four-month moratorium on vaping sales. Other states have also taken steps to curb or restrict vaping.
