WEBSTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After a wild 'Goose' chase, the five-foot-long water monitor lizard has finally been captured.

The reptile, affectionately known a Goose, was discovered after escaping through a second story window of a home two weeks ago in Webster.

Goose was seen wandering between Massachusetts and Connecticut before it was found. Residents were asked to report any sightings to the environmental police. Although water monitor lizards aren't known for harming people, the public was warned not to approach if spotted.

The animal has found a new home at Rainforest Reptile Shows, a non-profit animal sanctuary for abused and confiscated animals in Beverly. The organization is now requesting donations to help construct his new permanent habitat. The Rainforest Reptile Shows has rescued more than 600 reptiles this year and 12,000 reptiles since its inception in 1993.

It is illegal to own a water monitor in Massachusetts without a permit. According to authorities, Goose was kept without proper authorization. Police say they are investigating the details surrounding his possession.
