MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Many cat owners joke about how their feline companions don’t enjoy cat toys as much as they enjoy the packaging they come in. Many people online have taken the unorthodox cat toy concept to the next level…with a slab of concrete.
Dozens of videos all over social media have shown cats head over paws for the concrete. While their isn’t any definitive answers as to why, people like Jonanthan Losos, a biology professor at Washington University, told Livescience.com that they most likely enjoy the rough texture of the concrete. Losos also said that these slabs are perfect for cats to put their scent and pheromones.
WBZ NewsRadio’s James Rojas heard about this trend and decided that he wanted to give it a shot himself with his cat JB.
After picking up a concrete slab from a hardware store and bringing it home, JB’s reaction was muted.
James said that JB was not impressed and was more interested in napping than interacting with the slab. He mentioned how she sniffed it for a few seconds, which was at least some reaction, but beyond that, she just wasn’t interested.
